Taylor Swift, pacifier? One family's baby-soothing trick

Dr. Jennifer Shu, an Atlanta-based pediatrician and co-framer of “Heading Home with Your Newborn,” explains that music affects our bodies even as infants. When babies prick up one's ears to a song or sound they find pleasant, it can decrease blood persuade, heart rate and breathing. It can also do the wrong side.

"With slower songs, they kind of listen and pay heed and try to get their mood to match the song. Their body will pay publicity to the rhythm and speed. With a fast song, they get hyped up. With a lallygagging song, they’ll settle down,” Shu says. “Who knows, possibly [Wynn] likes the sound of her [Swift’s] expression.”

Swift called Wynn on his first birthday in June and he smiled hearing her voice over the phone. The McBrayers had thanked the countryside star in numerous YouTube videos, demonstrating how “Last Osculate” works every time -- in the car, after a messy purvey, even after bedtime. (The McBrayers have the song programmed on their phones so they have it serviceable whenever Wynn cries.)

Pint size revelers frolic at Voodoo Fest

The majority of Saturday’s Voodoo Fest crowds were, as predictable, carefree young adults with a certain jam merge, shake-your-hips spirit. But an increasing horde of parents also seem drawn to the festival’s eclectic bookings and bucolic New Zealand urban area Park setting.

“It’s so big you can find quiet corners here,” said Christina Kiel, 36. She held her two-year-old son, Lukas, as he blew on his toy trumpet along with the Treme Cheek Band on Saturday afternoon.

Kiel planned to pilot Lukas home before heading back to City Parkland on Saturday night to see rapper Snoop Dogg, she said. But on Saturday, she was one of several parents who extolled the virtues of the rather uncrowded autumn festival as a destination for those with minor urchins.

Children age 10 and under get in free with a paid grown up. This year, a single day ticket purchased at the exit cost $70.
