Youngsters at the Cabbagetown Pubescence Centre (CYC) got a special hoops session
with Toronto Raptors coaches on yesterday to praise the refurbishment of three basketball courts in priority neighbourhoods.
The refurbishments will be imaginable through a $300,000 investment from the MLSE Team Up Establishment, the charitable arm of Maple Leaf Sports and Play.
Through their donation, the indoor court at the CYC and outdoor courts in Scarborough Village and Lawrence Heights' Lotherton community will draw much-needed upgrades.
Team Up Foundation principal director Mike Bartlett said the three courts have one and only needs and were identified as being in need of upgrades by leaders in the communities in which they are located.
"One constituent we do is we go through a consultation process with each community to find out what their unique requirements are," he said. "The indoor court (at the CYC) needs a new stump, 100 per cent and needs a lot of TLC around the outside of the court."

Osage one of four teams still standing in Class 3
01.01.70
For Osage chief safety Brandon Vann, the realization of playing in the Rank 3 state semifinals kicked in about 24 hours after the Indians' crushing at North Callaway.
"On Sunday, I was watching some videotape on John Burroughs and I was like, 'Oh man, this is getting valid,'" Vann said. "It's elder year, and we gotta kick it in."
Osage teacher Dan Henderson said the reality hit him at about "3:30 p.m. Saturday," minutes after the 63-21 blowout win in Field City.
"We knew we had a good football band coming into this year," Henderson said. "Things had to go revenge, and they've went very well for us."
Aiming to go where no Osage football get has gone before, the Indians will play for a state title if they're capable to win at St. Louis school John Burroughs this Saturday. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
While most serious school athletes at this time of the year are on-going up and down the hardwood in preparation for basketball season or wrestling on the mats, the Indians were contented to be on the practice field Tuesday afternoon. Henderson said his players should foster what has become a record-setting season.
