Business interests add to speaker's rubber duck flock

When John A. Pérez was sworn in as demagogue of the California Assembly in 2010, he celebrated by giving out rubber duckies pertinence his name and the Assembly seal. Pérez's collection of hundreds of rubber duckies – from Sculpture of Liberty duck to firefighter duck – stems from an advantageous joke that he won’t divulge.
Since then, some subject interests that lobby the Legislature have seized on a significant way to get into the speaker's good graces: up-market duck gifts.
The California Retailers Tie, for example, gave him two Swarovski crystal ducks importance $129 each. (In that price range, the Swarovski dodge line ranges from Punk Duck , whose bill is pierced, to Guess Felicia , who has a sparkly purse.)
The Toy Dynamism Association, meanwhile, bestowed Pérez with a $322 commemorative box of rubber ducks with an engraved badge in honor of California Toy Day.
And Compline LLC, a company that lobbies the Capitol on workers' compensation issues, gave Pérez $428 quality of duck pins, according to lobbying records . That’s $8 over the annual cumshaw limit to legislators, but probably not enough to ruffle feathers at the Satisfactory Political Practices Commission, especially since Pérez is humanitarian with the pins, handing them out to staff and visitors.

Toy ducks to race in Genoa fundraiser

Genoa Township will course some ducks to raise money for its parks advance fund.
Contributors will pay $1 each to sponsor about 450 petty toy ducks, said Vicki Stainer, the township’s area manager, who developed the idea from a similar actuality in Columbus.
It likely will be an annual fundraiser, she said.
The ducks are numbered and registered to those who “appropriate” them.
On May 20, during the Center Green Woodland Festival, the township fire department will flood a stormwater ditch. “The ducks will be sent racing down the ditch and the P” of the winning duck will win a 50/50 representation, Stainer said.
The ducks come in many characters, including pirates, princesses, firefighters, regulate officers, construction workers, soldiers and nurses. Some weary beanies, inner tubes, and raincoats.
“People can assault in now and can adopt the duck character. The duck you prefer is logged, and the duck that comes in first wins,” Stainer said. “We keep the ducks here and we’ll tip them all into the water at the same time. That way people don’t have to be nowadays to win.”
