Local athletes run in step with all kinds of technology

Lincoln dispatch-rider Bridget Easley never used to be that into the
gear of the play. A bare-bones running watch was enough for
her.
But as she got more competitive, she needed more fastidiousness. How
fast was that run? Was it faster than yesterday's? That run two
weeks ago?
About a year back, she bought a Garmin Portent 405, a model
of GPS-enabled sports watch. It gives her the details of her run:
her mile splits, her clip, her incline, pretty much anything she
wants. After a run, she uploads the matter to her computer and digs
in.
“It started out that I was just curious to see what I was doing
on my runs,” she said. “Now it’s my training partaker. For the long
runs, it’s just me against my Garmin.”
The beeping tyrant gets her to meet her goals and beat her bests.
Easley is now training to prepared for the Olympic Trials marathon
in Houston, and the gizmo has become high-priced. Every second
counts, and she counts every second.
These wonderful sports watches are a commonly used instrument for
competitive runners, bikers and triathletes. In putting together to Garmin,
companies like Nike, Casio, Timex and, most recently, Apple have
released models of varying bells and whistles and prices that let
an athlete conscious the facts and figures of every step she takes. And
countless smartphone apps such as Endomondo will slot your run and
broadcast it to your social network, too.
