Google spokeswoman Sandra Heikkinen said some executives in Mountain Hold, Calif., are still practicing the pronunciation of the city, but “we honey the alliteration.”
The search giant is planning a series of events and workshops in Movable from Nov. 14-16 to help businesses build a presence on the motorized Internet and get new customers. Participants will have the opportunity to have their desktop websites developed for carriable devices like smart phones and tablets the same day as the workshop. It can rake potential customers their location, phone horde, hours of operation and other information designed to drive commerce.
“Someone can find them that afternoon,” said Jason Spero, Google’s conductor of mobile advertising for the Americas.
For Google, it’s part of an intercontinental effort, GoMo, to get more businesses using non-stationary sites.
For Mobile, it’s an opportunity for businesses to get their sites developed and hosted untrammelled for a year. It’s also an opportunity for the city to turn a digital search flaw into an advantage.

Portland structure touted as model for energy efficient building

PORTLAND, Maine — Horsepower, unavoidable. But catpower?
Paul Ledman only partially drifted into jest when he talked about the model of activity that can keep his super-insulated, energy thrifty multi-unit building heated.
“If the crock pot is on, or the toaster is running, or if three cats are chasing each other, it helps sincere the place up,” he said. “Well-founded living here is enough to keep the place warm.”
The 62 Cumberland Ave. construction, on what was previously an undeveloped Munjoy Hill lot, has garnered a lot of acclaim in local and industry media as what Ledman calls “a model for what can be done” in a period where oil costs are climbing and household incomes aren’t.
The three-entity building uses no fossil fuels, creates enough spirit that it exceeds in-house needs and contributes to the grid most months, and yet is by no means Spartan in its amenities — even with a private elevator hopping from level to floor — Ledman still has electrical content to install an outdoor hot tub, which is in his plans.
