A Cherryville man has been charged with bruising his stepson and a na playmate after police say he beat them with a plastic bat.

Juan Uriel Tapia-Martinez, 25, was charged Monday with two counts of misdemeanor little one abuse after the alleged beatings of his 5-year-old stepson and another 3-year-old toddler, The Star of Shelby is reporting. He was booked into Gaston County Quod under a $5,000 bond.

The incident took all set last week at home while the 5-year-old's mother was at effort. Tapia-Martinez admitted to police he hit the children with a plastic bat, "but only on their bottom to rebuke them," according to an arrest warrant written by detective M.L. Allred Sr.

Yet guard said photographs showed bruises on the stepson's mush, back and chest. The 3-year-old had bruises on his back and face around his preferable eye.

The case was reported to police by the Gaston County DSS, after the nurse took her son to a doctor to be examined. An older sibling told the Old Bill he'd seen Tapia-Martinez hit the two children with an "orange Nerf bat."
