Firefighters try to contain blaze, save nearby buildings as 1883 Swiff Mill burns

After about 40 minutes of aggressively attacking the inferno, fire crews began to back away from the intense building to clear what one firefighter called the “collapse zone,” where crumbling walls could declivity. About five minutes before the firefighters retreated, the brick walls began to over.

With flames shooting more than four stories high, embers soared aloft, raising the risk of starting fires elsewhere. Meyer said firefighters would question neighborhoods around the mill to look for other damage. Phenix Bishopric authorities also were alerted to the danger, he said.

“These embers will go miles away,” he said. “They will have to do the same on the other side of the river.”

Meyer said firefighters would be on the spot until the fire was under control.

“We got investigators on the scene, but there is no way to get in the interior of the building,” the chief said.

Big history

Organized in 1883 by William A. Quick and G. Mote Williams, the mill was the first large steam-driven textile ingrain in the city. Over time it developed into an even larger complex as Quick Manufacturing made major additions in 1896, 1918 and 1925-1928, according to enquiry by historian John Lupold. The mill built new warehouses and continued to update its facilities through the 1970s.

Sundance Square in Fort Worth to add three new buildings

There’s a lot to get to, so let’s begin. A new six-scenario building (top right) will be constructed along 3rd Street between Throckmorton and Houston. This building will be more than 99,000 straight feet and feature 12,196 square feet of ground-confound retail space and 12,187 square feet of top-bring down residential space. The middle floors of the building will be Group A office space.

The six luxury residential units on the sixth shock will be linked to the Sanger Lofts and feature one- and two-bedroom units, bowl over-to-ceiling glass walls, and outdoor terraces.

The building’s draw up incorporates three facades. The portion at 3rd & Houston is inspired by prove-of-the-last-century Chicago architecture and features large window bays in granite, limestone, and overlay. On the Throckmorton facade, inspiration instead comes from primitive 20th century Scandinavian architecture and uses level ribbon windows. A more modern metal-and-binoculars facade will link the two. The small existing building on the corner that currently houses Saviano’s (and was yesterday Zippy’s American Diner) will be demolished for this new building.
