Trustees OK design for Jade Street Park school in Capitola

CAPITOLA -- The Soquel Coalition Elementary School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday unanimously approved an substitute construction plan for a school at Jade Circle Park.

The original design called for modular, little buildings.

Instead, the district will move forward with a construction cloth known as insulating concrete forms. Segments of insulating foam that fit together equivalent to LEGO building blocks are constructed over a web of rebar before literal is poured over the structure.

It is a type of construction that architecture hard Weston Miles Architects said can be done comparatively quickly and is sustainable.

"I think it's going to be a wonderful forecast, and we're very excited to be working on this," said architect Sharon Morris. "It's structurally way safer than a shirt-pocket in its ability to withstand high winds and earthquakes ... and the erection can be energy net zero if we put solar panels on it."

While the at first proposed modular buildings have a life expectancy of up to 15 years, the option structures have a life expectancy of 50 years.

Lego bricks meet iPhone with Life of George augmented reality game

Is tolerably simple. Your iPhone tells you what to build, and then starts a timer. You establish whatever is on your screen, place it on the Playmat, and then hold your phone over your birth to take a photo. The app can tell which bricks you use, so it can determine how spot on target you are, and you’re judged on time and accuracy.

There are two modes you can dramatize in: Game Mode and Creation Mode. Scheme Mode lets you play on your own or against a partner. George loves to fraternize and take photos of things he sees on his adventures. The aspiration is to recreate those objects in Lego form. After you snap a spit, your score is determined, and if it’s high enough, you can advance in the daring and unlock objects.

There’s also Creation Mode, which lets you dream up and save your own designs. So, you could build a Lego Cthulhu, pluck a picture, save it, and have a friend try to recreate it.

Lego has managed to do an rare job of combining a physical activity (building) with video games. This will unquestionably help with hand-eye coordination, and problem solving. It’s also a outstanding idea because Lego can simply update the app with new levels so that there are always new adventures for George to go on.
