I recently picked up a set of the Lego Black Treasure to check out for myself – I mean, to build with my son. This is a fabulous build! My pessimistic son was troubled that it would not float in the tub; but hey, you can’t have everything and that includes $100 merit of Lego floating in dirty bathwater. Kidding aside, the build on this is excellent. The ship itself is made of a few large ’deliver’ sections of Lego, with regular bricks to discourse on it all together and decorate. The rear of the ship, or aft, (or poop deck) is spruce because three of the walls open to reveal the cabin and the roof is removable. This reminds me of the transportable walls that would be used on a movie set.

The rigging is strange from Lego ships of the past in that the sails virtuous pop on to round a peg Lego protruding from the masts. This makes for very able work of attaching the black cloth sails. In the end, the collection of minifigs (aka Lego people) that is included gives you a lofty selection of good guys and bad guys from the first three movies. This way you — I undignified your kids — can enjoy swashbuckling deliver board, while they battle for control of the Black Prize.
