My Three Favorite Superhero Movies
05.10.11
The spotted truth that must be acknowledged before picking your three favorite superhero movies is that superhero movies are not, on the whole, very secure. THAT’S RIGHT, NERDS — YOU HEARD ME.
And I say this as someone cozily nestled in the butt demographic for every superhero film — i.e. a one-experience teenaged comic-devourer who spent many youngster afternoons in the suburban basement of my fellow side-splitting-devouring best friend, playing darts and arguing over the fancy cast for a live-action “X-Men” motion picture, the prospect of which, at that time, seemed about as likely as a manned charge to Jupiter.
After all, only a handful of superheroes had, at that point, been brought to the greyish screen, the most notable of which was Superman played by Christopher Reeve in 1978. (Nevertheless, here’s what I tip of our X-Men dream cast, circa 1984: Schwarzenegger as Colossus, certainly. Kristy McNichol as Kitty Pryde, though by that chance she was probably too old. And… that’s actually as far as we got. Wolverine, for his part, seemed altogether uncastable. You needed some mutant cross of under age Clint Eastwood, younger Charles Bronson and perchance Harrison Ford.)
