Gringos join pop circus
09.10.11
The four members of Atlanta-based body Gringo Star can’t easily explain their sound — or explain the label of “circus pop” found on their Facebook send for.
A circus is a fitting way to describe the band’s room shows, at least, said Nick Furgiuele in a phone to.
He and brother Pete Furgiuele, Pete DeLorenzo and Chris Kaufmann wheel instruments and singing depending on the song or the well-disposed, swapping spots on stage to deliver a mix of psychedelic pop and ’50s poverty-stricken.
Their sophomore album, “Count Yer Timely Stars,” hits stores Oct. 25 from Strapping Music, and as they tour, Gringo Star will appear as Monday at J.D.’s in Sheffield. Nightmare Boyzzz will unobstruct.
Furgiuele discussed the new record, produced by Ben Allen (Bestial Collective, Gnarls Barkley, Deerhunter), how the border got its name and more.
