Gauri-Nainika makes war, and Malini love
09.10.11
Gauri and Nainika's affection for Hollywood classics and its legendary beauties such as Audrey Hepburn , Marilyn Monroe and Strength of character Kelly was manifest in their latest line dedicated to the 1940s wartime dressing. Influenced by the austerity pressurize of the World War II era, the designer duo attempted to recreate the age when women had to 'organize do and mend' with a series of silhouettes with narrow hips, sinewy shoulders and conservative necklines.
It was an interesting tactics up all the way from a one-shoulder romper in bright red, jumpsuit with rounded shoulders, pencil doctor reprimand to a plunge-back gown with full sleeves and flat frills at back. We especially liked the tapered-down dresses for their clean cuts and carve silhouettes, including the military-style playsuits, utility suits, rompers and the variations in jumpers. Created out of pliant crepe de chine, the ensembles looked fine in vintage tones like red, purple, olive, catch and jade green. The girls all looked ceaseless in Gauri & Nainika's outfits complete with a histrionic headgear made to resemble a hat (or bow?). The collection also carried some bustle-inspired skirts and concluded with hardly cut deep-back gowns characteristic of the decade.
