According to Wikipedia, a baby shower is a way to “advertise the pending or recent birth of a child by presenting gifts to the parents at a soir. The term “shower” is often phony to mean that the expectant mother is “showered” with gifts”.
As part of unwritten law, baby showers, in the past, were given only for the family’s first toddler.
