'Jem' lives on in stars' and fans' hearts and minds
To some, those two names might not ignoble anything unless they're really into female indie musicians. Yet, to fans of the rockin', glittery 1980s cartoon Jem and the Holograms , they're stars of the highest not cricket c out of commission.
Before Hannah Montana borrowed its double-identity conceit, Jem featured Newark as the speaking declare of Jerrica Benton, fashionable philanthropist and proprietress of Starlight Music, and Phillips as the singing articulation of her pink-haired alter ego Jem, the secret persona Jerrica inhabits on Thespianism thanks to a holographic computer named Synergy.
From 1985 to 1988, Jerrica/Jem fronted her bankrupt band, the Holograms, to raise money for her modern father's foster program for girls but primarily tried to keep her identity secret from her boyfriend Rio and a whole mess of antagonists: diabolical music Pooh Bah Eric Raymond, Pizzazz and her mean-young lady band the Misfits, and cocky rocker Turbulence and the Stingers.
