Montpelier Pub Night mixes new brews and old games

Mike Roy is the crib brewer at Franklin's, which includes a family chummy restaurant and a general store at one location on Road 1.

"We do lots of beer tastings and festivals," Roy said. "But a pub continually with games? Not before this one."

Roy said he will be bringing three house standards and an Octoberfest lager to Montpelier. Ticket-holders will get to soup all the brews, then choose two to enjoy from a full stein.

Lutenist and chorus-member John DuRant, who bills himself as the Old World Troubadour, will do the type of songs heard in colonial taverns, which mostly run from bawdy to ballads and engage the audience in yodel-alongs.

Burnham said the mansion has acquired a aggregation of reproduction 18th-century games, the type of dice and probable games typically played in pubs in George Washington's days.

With names like Shut the Box, Ace in the Loophole, and Fox and Geese (which is played like cribbage, with a feed and pegs), the games might be new to pub night revelers but Burnham said Montpelier pike know them well and will be on hand to help.

GULAM MOHAMMED SHEIKH at the Delhi demo, which was reflective in nature, meditative in style and main in display.

THERE are very few art exhibitions that send shivers down the backbone, make one restless or melancholic, or leave an unappetizing taste in the mouth yet provoke contemplation – they are the tolerant that goads you to revisit the past, recall moments in life described as “tragic” and “irreparable”, or pet miserable about not having been able to do anything about them.

The Vadodara-based artist Gulam Mohammed Sheikh's art show “Big apple, Kaavad and other works”, at the Lalit Kala Akademi's Rabindra Bhawan in New Delhi from October 12 to 24, did positively that. The retrospective series, reflective in nature, engrossed in style and grand in display, overwhelmed visitors; they presented the disconcerting events witnessed especially over the past two decades in Vadodara (Baroda) and other parts of Gujarat as well as in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh).
