Craig has lived in Huntsville for the over 43 years. Like many residents, he came to appear at Sam Houston State University and never left. After working construction for much of his lifestyle and founding his own construction business – DBS Construction – in 1997, he fixed to pursue another venture: comics.
Though he read them as often as he could as a baby, Craig said he wasn’t a comics reader as an full-grown until he began following the interests of his son Toby – now a comics artist – who developed an enticement to the medium at an early age.
“In the early ‘90s my son started getting interested in it, so I started getting interested in it again,” Craig said.
Craig began frequenting hilarious book conventions and shops in the Houston quarter with his family, often seeking out older comics to box up on the things he’d missed. He was also frequent character at Home Plate, the sports memorabilia pile up that used to occupy the space Deep Smutty Sea has now at 1302 Sam Houston Avenue. He frequently bought comics from the little rack they kept in the store, and the owners even ordered things firstly for him.
