For a shed weight different take on the holiday season, check out the Awkward Toy Show sponsored by the Mendocino Coast Furnituremakers.

The show, unseal from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Thursday through Dec. 31 at the Mendocino Art Center's Nichols Gallery, includes puzzles, instructive games, rocking horses and toys that flap and clack as they are pulled along. Many of the toys are made with neighbourhood pub woods and inspired by local themes.

An break reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10 will feature a depiction for a handmade oak rocking horse. Tickets for the drawing are $5 each, with proceeds benefitting the Mendocino Littoral Children's Fund.

Haulin' in the holidays

Calistoga celebrates the mature of lights with its annual Lighted Tractor File at 7 p.m. Saturday in downtown Calistoga.

The event will special attraction lighted vintage and modern tractors, old-fashioned trucks and construction equipment in celebration of the sabbatical season and the community's agricultural heritage.
